Season Opener - Bike written off

After the April meeting at Boston Pizza, I was heading west to go home on Stony Plain Rd., and as I crossed straight through the intersection at 142nd Street an elderly lady began her left turn north. Needless to say, in the bike vs car showdown, my bike lost, I hit her grill at about 45 degrees and went for a bit of a flight. The bike is a goner, and I am currently in a brace, expecting a cast tomorrow morning on my leg.

In looking back on things, I wasn't going excessively fast, I was looking for that next car to pop out of nowhere, but I am realizing that although I was watching for other cars and other drivers, I was not considering the sightlines of other drivers, there was a truck turning left on my side that likely blocked or partially blocked the elderly lady's view of me.

With a new season upon us, let's remember that other drivers may not be used to us on the road again, also, remember that the sightlines of others may be limited by larger vehicles on the road.

Ride on, Ride safe!

PS. I'm thinking I may be switching from a sport bike at this opportunity, if you know of one available, it'll be a few weeks/months before I need it!
